Jamie Williams began playing the trombone in his native Florida at the age of eleven. Only four years later, he began regular engagements as a substitute and extra player in various professional orchestras. In 1997, he was offered a full scholarship to attend the world renowned Juilliard School in New York. His main teachers include Joe Alessi, Per Brevig, Jonas Bylund, and Michel Becquet.
Mr. Williams won first prize in numerous international competitions such as the International Trombone Association solo competition in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He has since been invited to North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to give masterclasses and recitals as well as to adjudicate competitions. He has been soloist with orchestra on many occasions including in the famous Berlin Philharmonie.
He was appointed principal trombone of the Dortmund Philharmonic in 2003 and holds currently the same position at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2009. The Berlin Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, Hamburg Opera, Deutsche Symphonie Orchester, and Cologne Opera are only a few of the many orchestras with which Mr. Williams performs with.
Jamie Williams teaches trombone and chamber music at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock" since 2010. In 2011 he was appointed Yamaha Artist. www.jamiewilliams.de
