Marta Mathéu

Born in Tarragona, Marta Mathéu has a solid musical formation as  pianist, organist, choir director and singer. Due to her knowledge, she can usually deal with spontaneity most of the major pieces and opera roles, oratorio and lieder, as well as alternate the repertoire of early music with classical, romantic, contemporary and twentieth century repertoire. She has been teaching at the Liceu Conservatory since 2014. She is also professor of the Catalan Choral Society and the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana giving regular masterclasses. In these last years, she has been guest as a lecturer at the International Singing Course organized by the National University of Bogota and EAFID University in Medellin.

Marta Mathéu won the Francesc Viñas Competition in 2008, the Audience Award and the Award for the best interpreter of Mozart, among others. She has also won the prize of the Permanent Competition of Musical Youths of Spain, and another international contests like Manuel Ausensi and Montserrat Caballé.

In past seasons, she has regularly performed as a soloist in the Barcelona Auditorium, the Liceu and in the Palau de la Música, where stands out her participation in the production of the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach directed by Jordi Savall; as well as in the production of The Marriage of Figaro by the Friends of the Sabadell Opera, debuting in the role of Contessa, besides of Barbarina and Marcellina, previously performed. Moreover, she has offered several recitals of lied in Madrid, Santiago de Compostela and Lleida in the centenary of Enric Granados, accompanied on piano by Albert Guinovart.

Miss Mathéu studied in the conservatory of her city and in the Conservatory of Music in Valencia with Ana Luisa Chova, improving later with Montserrat Caballé, Elena Obraztsova, Nelly Miricioiu, Isabel Penagos, Robert Expert, Miguel Zanetti, Wolfram Rieger and Roger Vignoles. Since then, she has performed under the direction of masters such as Víctor Pablo Pérez, Antoni Ros Marbà, Neville Marriner, Fabio Biondi, Jordi Casas, Adrian Leaper and Ivor Bolton.

In 2011, the Tarragona City Council gave her the Diploma of Cultural Merit for her international career and for her job as ambassador of the population. Currently, she is a member of the Senate of the city. She has worked with record labels like KLASSIC, Brilliant, Alia Vox, Naxos and Opus Arte.
