Álvaro Prieto

Born in Salamanca, where he studied at the Conservatory of Music with Professor David Tomás, obtaining the Extraordinary End-of-Career Award.

Subsequently, he continued his studies at the Musik-Akademie, in Basel, with maestro Sergio Azzolini (international soloist). There he obtained the Solisten Diplom. And at the Richard-Strauss Konservatorium, in Munich, with maestro Marco Postinghel (soloist at the Bayerischer Rundfunk). There he completed a postgraduate course.
At the same time, he has advanced courses with professors Klaus Thunemann, Gustavo Núñez, Dag Jensen, Brian Pollard, Alberto Grazzi, Stefan Schweigert, Garreth Newman, the Berlin Philharmonic quintet, Enrique Abargues, and Francisco Alonso and Vicente Merenciano, among others.

He has belonged to several Young Orchestras. Some of them being the Young National Orchestra of Spain (J.O.N.D.E.), the Young Orchestra of the European Community (E.U.Y.O), the Orchestra of the Musik-Akademie of Basel, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, etc.

He collaborates with several professional orchestras, such as the Sinfónica de Cadaqués, the Kammerorchester Basel, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Bandart, Teatro Regio of Turin, Spira Mirabilis and the main Spanish orchestras performing in the Philharmonic Halls of Berlin, Musikverein, Concertgebouw, Royal Albert Hall , National Auditorium, Palau de la Música, etc. With directors like Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Harding, Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, etc. And, at the moment, he is bassoon soloist of the Real Symphony Orchestra of Seville.

In the field of chamber music, he has belonged to ensembles such as the Wind Quartet "Ánemos", the "Trio Basiliensis", the ensemble "Madrid-Berlin", the wind quintet "Ethos". These last being winners of the first prize in Sitges competition, and of the "Pedro Bote" contest. He has collaborated with various groups, such as "Moonwinds", Ensembles of the Reina Sofía School, Soloists of Seville, Airas Ensemble, etc.

As a soloist, he has performed works such as Mozart's Concert, Ciranda das sete notas by Villa-Lobos, Concert in E minor by Vivaldi, Strauss Concertino Duo, Concerto for two fagots by Vanhal, the Concert for Wind Instruments and Orchestra by P. Hindemith, Haydn's Concerting Symphony, etc.

In the teaching field, he has been a professor of Bassoon at the Professional Conservatory of Zamora, at the Superior Conservatory of Seville and, currently, he is a professor of wind quintet at the Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country M.U.S.I.K.E.N.E. and bassoon of the Conservatory of Music of Castilla y León.

He has taught several courses in centers, such as the Superior Conservatory of Tenerife, the Superior of Granada, the Escorial, Jaén, San Juan de Alicante, Guillena, Alahama, Utrera, as well as in orchestras, such as Orquesta Joven de Andalucía, Orquesta Ciudad de Soria, Orquesta del Aljarafe, Philharmonic of Seville, etc.
