A research and innovation project that will mark a turning point in the management and definition of the Costa Daurada and the Terres de l'Ebre as family tourism destinations.

Committed to the European strategy, the project aims to apply the new perspective from which local governments and socioeconomic actors in the territory will define and develop specialised innovation ecosystems.

Thanks to the family tourism PECT TurisTIC project, the Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre will become an observatory and European reference in technologies and trends in family tourism.

Ultimately, the family tourism PECT TurisTIC is a transcendent step in the establishment of the territorial and sectorial strategies that both the Tarragona Provincial Council, and its Tourist Board, and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili have been developing around tourism and the promotion of the territory in recent years.

Our territory and the family tourism TurisTIC project will become an innovative European reference in family tourism, taking advantage of the existence of a public-private ecosystem based on innovation and knowledge generation, as well as an economy with a long history of tourism offerings and where family tourism has a specific weight well above the mean.

The family tourism TurisTIC specialisation project aims at generating competition, innovation, growth and new jobs, both directly and indirectly.

The Tarragona Provincial Council is coordinating this project through the European Projects and Knowledge-based Region Unit, which is part of the RIS3CAT strategy (Strategy for Intelligent Specialisation in Catalonia), with a total investment of 3.729.523,27 euros and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with a contribution of 1,864,761.64 EUR.

The ERDF Catalonia operational programme 2014-2020 aims to promote intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth in the territory, in line with the guidelines set by the Europe 2020 strategy of the European Commission.

The instrument proposed to activate this role of the territory is the Territorial Specialisation and Competitiveness Project (PECT).

PECTs are initiatives promoted by territorial actors and led by local public organisations to encourage actions that contribute to economic transformation, with a strong innovation component.

There are currently 25 PECTs underway in Catalonia, which, in all cases, are projects co-financed by the ERDF.

The achievement of this overall objective requires the development of actions aimed at the economic, social and territorial cohesion of Catalonia.

Objectives of the family tourism PECT TurisTIC

•         • To improve the positioning of the Costa Daurada and the Terres de l'Ebre as family tourism destinations, developing specialisations based on family experience, which generate employment and economic activity throughout the territory, respecting the uniqueness of each destination and valuing the different existing assets.
    • To promote the innovation ecosystem specialised in the family tourism sector through stable mechanisms for the creation of new products, services and solutions that are scalable and transferable to other similar destinations.
    • To promote the Costa Daurada and the Terres de l'Ebre as spaces that generate specialised knowledge capable of generating both the attraction of specialised talent and the creation of products and services around family tourism.

The PECT TurisTIC en família is orientated towards the innovation in tourism, contributing transversally to the ERDF Catalonia OP 2014-2020 main priorities 1 “Strengthening research, technological development and innovation” and 6 “Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency”. It also contributes towards the RIS3CAT strategy and towards all the transversal priorities of the ERDF Catalonia OP 2014-2020.
