The MAMT

The Museu d'Art Modern was created by the Diputació de Tarragona in 1976 to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art and, likewise, to conserve and display its artistic heritage and share it with the community.

With more than 40 years of history, the MAMT continues to work to fulfill the principles of the museum definition that are included in the definition made by ICOM at the Extraordinary General Assembly held in Prague on August 24, 2022:

“A museum is a not-for-profit, permanent institution in the service of society that researches, collects, conserves, interprets and exhibits tangible and intangible heritage. Open to the public, accessible and inclusive, museums foster diversity and sustainability. They operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with the participation of communities, offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing.”

Mission, vision and values

As part of the Diputació de Tarragona, we understand the strategic principles as basic statements that will allow us to visualize the general framework of the strategy of the Museum of Modern Art of the Provincial Council in Tarragona, in the most essential format.

The mission will determine the purpose of the museum; the vision, the desirable future, that is, the place where you want to get to, and the values, the attitudes of the people that allow you to achieve the strategic mandates efficiently.
