[BIP] The Living Image - Generative Practices in Code, Sound & Performance

[BIP] The Living Image

The Living Image explores how creative coding can become a tool for artistic expression.

Co-funded by the European Union

A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is an Erasmus+ format that combines online collaboration with a short-term international mobility experience.

Using Hydra and other open-source creative technologies, participants investigate generative systems, real-time image creation, sound interaction and audiovisual performance.

The programme combines experimentation, collaboration and project-based learning in an international environment where students from different artistic disciplines work together to develop innovative creative outcomes.

  • Format: 2 online sessions + 5-day intensive programme in Tarragona.
  • Participants: 15 students from 3 European Higher Education Institutions (5 students per institution).
  • ECTS: 3 ECTS.
  • Location: Tarragona, Spain.
  • Date: May 2027.

The programme explores the relationship between code, image, sound and live performance through collaborative artistic practice.

  • Work in multidisciplinary teams with students from different European institutions.
  • Create projects combining image, sound and live performance.
  • Present the final work in a public showcase at the end of the intensive week.

The programme is designed as a collaborative and experimental learning experience, combining workshops, creative coding labs, experimentation and project-based learning.

Creative coding with Hydra

Hydra is one of the open-source creative technologies used in the programme to explore generative image creation and audiovisual performance.

Participants investigate how code can be used as a creative medium and how generative systems can produce real-time visual experiences.

Area Exploration
Generative systems Experimentation with systems and processes that produce evolving visual outcomes.
Real-time image Creation and transformation of images through creative coding.
Sound interaction Exploration of relationships between image and sound.
Audiovisual performance Using code and digital technologies as tools for live creative practice.

Online component

Before the intensive week in Tarragona · 2 online sessions

Before meeting in Tarragona, participants take part in two online sessions designed to build an international learning community.

They are introduced to the programme, explore the principles of generative art and creative coding, and form international teams that begin developing their project ideas.

Phase Focus
Connect Building an international learning community and introducing the programme.
Explore Exploring the principles of generative art and creative coding.
Project ideas Forming international teams and beginning to develop collaborative project ideas.
