Ana I. Mejías Moreno, a student of the Higher Technical Certificate in Artistic Jewellery at the School of Art and Design of the Tarragona Provincial Council, has been awarded one of the Extraordinary Awards for Professional Artistic Education in Catalonia, granted by the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Government of Catalonia.

These awards recognise students who, thanks to effort, rigour and dedication, have achieved outstanding academic results upon completing professional studies in the fields of music, dance, and visual arts and design.

The awarded project, titled From the Forest to the Skin, is an artistic jewellery proposal that emerges from the need to observe nature and re-establish a connection with it. Based on research focused on the plant world, the work reflects on the relationship between people and the natural environment.

The pieces invite viewers to observe nature from a sensitive and close perspective. For the preservation of the plants used, the student experimented with glycerine preservation techniques, a slow process requiring observation, testing, and continuous learning. This experimentation allowed her to study aspects such as preservation times, suitable leaf types, and colour variations in plant materials.

The jewellery structures are handcrafted in brass, worked using piercing and soldering techniques. The golden tone of the metal enhances the natural colours of the preserved leaves. The pieces also incorporate brown suede leather, used as a base onto which the leaves are stitched, adding flexibility and reinforcing the conceptual link with nature.

The award ceremony for the diploma recipients took place on 10 June at the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium.

The School of Art and Design of Tarragona congratulates Ana on this recognition and on the quality and sensitivity of her project.
