At the School of Art and Design of the Diputació in Reus, we understand artistic education as a space for growth, experimentation, and learning that accompanies each person beyond the classroom. Our aim is to offer high-quality, rigorous, and supportive education that enables students to discover their own vision and develop a solid, thoughtful, and committed creative practice.

We want every student to find here a place to think, make, and imagine; a safe and inspiring environment where mistakes are part of the process and where collective work enriches individual paths. We see art and design as tools for cultural and social transformation, and we strive to prepare professionals capable of offering sensitive, sustainable, and innovative responses to the challenges of the present.

We guide students to become critical, curious, and competent; to learn how to relate to their surroundings, to listen to them, and to contribute responsibly. Our mission is to guarantee broad and high-quality training while nurturing a love for the creative process, visual culture, and the capacity to imagine possible futures.

With this commitment, we promote an education that unites technical excellence, artistic sensitivity, and community engagement, contributing to the promotion and dissemination of art and design within our territory. Here, each student builds their own path and, through it, a part of the creative future of the country.

The Art and Design School of the Diputación of Tarragona in Reus

The Art and Design School of Reus was established in October 1978 with the aim of contributing to the cultural enrichment of its immediate environment. The Diputación seeks to facilitate access for students from our regions to high-quality, advanced artistic education. Through these programs, we aim to ensure broad preparation and qualification for future professionals and to contribute to the promotion and dissemination of art and design.

“The School has been, since its inception, a center that energizes cultural activities and a space that brings together ideas and people in search of pedagogical innovation and the establishment of a platform for reflection and debate in the field of Visual Arts and Design.”

Methodology

At the School of Art and Design of the Diputació in Reus, we understand learning as a living, open, and constantly evolving process. The school functions as a creative laboratory, where experimentation, reflection, and practice continuously interact.

Our methodology is centered around the project as the main axis. We work with real challenges and professional situations that allow students to develop strategies, test solutions, and understand theory through action. Knowledge is seen as a combination of practices, questions, and critical perspectives, rather than a fixed set of answers.

We foster a way of learning that integrates research, collaborative work, and interdisciplinarity, while valuing the ability to listen, observe, and rethink. Space is given to trial and error as an inevitable —and necessary— part of the creative process.

The fundamental goal is for each student to acquire operational autonomy, independent judgement, and critical capacity; to be able to make meaningful creative decisions, justify them, and build a professional vision that can grow over time.

In this way, the school’s methodology not only transmits knowledge but also guides students in discovering who they are as creators, designers, and professionals of the future.

Values

As a core and irreplaceable principle, the School of Art and Design of the Diputació in Reus maintains ongoing activity that naturally connects it with its immediate surroundings —the city of Reus and its cultural communities— while also extending its presence across the wider territory and engaging actively at the national level. This dual perspective, both local and outward-looking, allows us to build a school that is rooted and, at the same time, projected beyond its borders.

We work to place art and design at the service of society and believe in an education that engages in dialogue with heritage, with cultural institutions, and with the creative agents of the country. This commitment is the foundation that ensures the rigour, excellence, and competitiveness of our educational programmes.

To this, we add other essential values that guide our educational project:

  • Inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that everyone can find their place here.

  • Sustainability, understood as a principle that guides our processes and decisions.

  • A project-based culture, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

  • Quality and professionalisation, as a commitment to the future of our students.

In this way, we build a school that grows with the territory, that collaborates, that shares, and that contributes to enriching visual culture and design throughout the country.
