Sant Jordi in Vila-seca: 10th edition of “Efímera, art in the street”

As part of the Sant Jordi 2026 celebration, Vila-seca City Council is promoting a new edition of “Efímera: arte en la calle” (Ephemeral: art in the street), an art exhibition in public spaces that uses the book as a common thread and in which the CFGS of Applied Arts to the Wall (Painting) has participated in almost all editions, together with l'EADReus.

The activity will take place on April 21, 22, and 23 in Vila-seca. The first two days will be devoted to the installation of the different projects, while on April 23, coinciding with Sant Jordi, an institutional visit along the exhibition route will take place.

This initiative reaches its tenth year of collaboration with the Tarragona Provincial Council’s School of Art and Design. In this context, second-year students of the Higher Vocational Training Program (CFGS) in Applied Arts to the Wall take part in the project through the installation of works developed in different subjects, which are integrated into the urban artistic route.

“Efímera: art in the street” is an activity that has been carried out for seven years within the CFGS in Applied Arts to the Wall (Painting) at EADTarragona, and also includes the participation of the School of Art and Design of Reus. It is an ephemeral exhibition aimed at bringing art closer to the public and giving new life to unused books—such as encyclopedias, textbooks, paperbacks, or children’s books—by transforming them into installations and sculptures.

The exhibition route extends through various areas of the municipality, where visitors can see urban design projects and ephemeral sculptures built with thousands of books donated by residents, associations, schools, and institutions.

With this proposal, “Efímera” consolidates itself as a space for creation, experimentation, and connection between art, public space, and citizens in one of the most significant cultural celebrations of the year.
