EL GALLINER, MARIA LARA

The Henhouse aims to offer rock music fans of any age a simple, sober, and neutral space where the atmosphere stands out and takes center stage, thus honoring the name of the project.

The venue, open at night, is intended to be a flexible and dual-purpose space, offering live concerts on selected nights or a karaoke service on days when no such activity is scheduled. The building is located in Reus, at 9 Riudecols Street. In this particular city, nighttime leisure spaces are mainly concentrated in the northern area, meaning we are in a consolidated but somewhat distant sector. Therefore, with the intimate and reserved atmosphere I had in mind and the materials I ended up using (in the ceiling structure and also the perforated brick), I aimed to bring customers into a henhouse. Nonetheless, I tried to represent it in a more refined way without hiding its essence.

These spaces are differentiated by their heights rather than by partitions, using both the gabled roofs, which define the L-shaped circulation area, and the different platform levels, which separate the table areas, stage, or bar. By definition, a bar is an establishment serving food and drinks where the products are served at the counter and customers may consume them standing or on seats near the bar.
