TRASPATI, JAFET ORTIZ

Traspati consists of a dismantlable sculptural stage made from the backrests of the benches in Plaça Gabriel Ferrater i Soler in the Fortuny neighborhood of Reus.

The stage aims to dignify public space through culture and promote interaction among residents of a socially disadvantaged neighborhood. This area, despite being listed as part of Catalonia’s architectural heritage, has today been largely excluded from the cultural services provided by the City Council, due in large part to its distance from the city center and its social composition.

“Traspati” seeks to establish a place within the contemporary cultural and creative sphere of the region as a space that generates performing arts proposals, energizing the neighborhood both culturally and economically, and creating opportunities for residents of the area to meet neighbors from other parts of the city, thereby promoting social inclusion and the regeneration of Reus’s public spaces.
