YOUTH BOX – YOUTH HOSTEL, MAITE PUEY

The project is based on the recovery of the old “Vapor Vell” factory in Reus, converting it into a YOUTH HOSTEL while respecting the existing space and fulfilling the necessary program. Youth Hostels and Boutique Hotels are two relatively new trends, with the former being an attempt to restore old charming buildings and move away from the classic commercial hotel. In this case, the goal is to modernize the traditional concept of a hostel. It is aimed at a young audience aged 16 to 30 who choose to sleep in a shared space in exchange for a lower and more affordable price.

The project is based on the idea of a box as a container, allowing a series of events to occur within it.

Starting from the premise that a building is a container/box formed by six faces, constructed to accommodate different human activities, among others, and with the goal of respecting the structure, it is conceived as a box that contains another box, which in turn serves as a core to distribute and organize experiences (a multipurpose space).
